Tyres a "distress purchase"
Women drivers prefer garages that have signed the FOXY Promise© to say 'We strive to be a female friendly business and will never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell our customers services they do not need or want.'
For many female drivers, tyres can be a "distress purchase", it has been noted.
As such, when it is time to replace the motor parts, it is unsurprising that many will use price as their main criteria when making a decision, Autocar explains.
The publication warns that purchasing bargain tyres from the Far East can "seriously" impact the way in which a car handles during wet weather.
It made its comments after testing five leading budget tyre brands - Wanli, Triangle, Nankang, GT Radial and Linglong - against a premium tyre from Continental.
The established tyre took first place in all but one of the tests, which saw the tyres used on cars braking from 50 mph and having their stopping distance measured.
"We expected the bargain tyres in this test to fall short of the Continental, but we were not prepared for just how poorly some performed," said senior tester at Autocar Jamie Corstorphine.
Earlier this month, road safety organisation ProTyre noted that driving in wet conditions requires "delicate" and "skilful" use of vehicle brakes.
