Swedish car manufacturer Volvo scored 'good' whiplash protection ratings with injuries of this type reduced among women Volvo drivers by up to 75 per cent.
All of the firm's models won a 'good' rating when put through their paces in whiplash protection tests at Thatcham, the UK's motor insurance repair research centre.
Thatcham's crash laboratory manager Matthew Avery said: "Volvo has shown a continuing commitment to safety, and their seats once again performed very well in our tests."
Results show Volvo's Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) reduce short-term whiplash injuries in women drivers by as much as 50 per cent and long-term injuries of more than a year by up to 75 per cent.
These stats were better than the overall rates of 33 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.
The Thatcham test centre was first founded in the 1960s and provides around 70 per cent of the data insurers use to define a car's grouping.
