Winter driving tips

Women drivers might benefit from some safer driving tips that have been offered by Avis Rent A Car today.

With few hours of daylight and frosty conditions, driving alone can sometimes be a bit stressful - especially if you break down.

But preparing thoroughly, such as planning a route and informing a friend of your travel plans, can be a good idea, the company said.

In addition, always make sure you have enough fuel to last you the whole journey. Stopping to re-fill can be inconvenient if you can't find a petrol station, so fill up before you leave.

Pack some extra clothes in the car as well and keep some refreshments at hand, so if you do have the misfortune to break down, you can keep your energy levels up.

But it's got to be said that using common sense is the number one priority. Drive carefully and within the speed limit, don't take any unplanned or unknown short cuts and keep a mobile phone nearby - just remember not to use it while actually driving.
