Women drivers 'are safer'
With Mother's Day just around the corner, one auto group has decided to mark the occasion by settling the age-old debate on whether men or women make better drivers.
According to Gem Motoring Assist, there is no question that females are safer behind the wheel than their male counterparts.
The group cited statistics from the World Health Organisation that show three times more men die in road accidents than women.
Gem chief executive David Williams put this down to a difference in attitude.
He stated: "Men fare worse because they take more risks."
Overall, the group said male motorists are generally better at car control but women drivers have superior self control.
The group concluded the latter quality is more effective at keeping road users safe.
Female motorists looking for cheap cover may find they can secure a great deal on specialist insurance for women drivers specifically because they are considered to be more defensive behind the wheel than their male counterparts.
