Women drivers call for more green cars 13 March 08
Nearly half of motorists (47 per cent) - no doubt including female drivers - believe a greater selection of green cars is needed to encourage more motorists to drive low emission vehicles.
According to research carried out by Survey Monkey on behalf of swiftcover.com, around a quarter (23 per cent) said that the government should put pressure on manufacturers to step up development of such motors.
"While environmentally-friendly and alternative fuel cars are the future, British drivers have yet to fully embrace green motoring," said Craig Staniland, underwriting director at swiftcover.com.
More than one in five (21 per cent) thought that tax incentives or subsidies from the government would encourage British drivers to embrace the idea of green motoring, the research found.
Earlier this week it was revealed that women are less likely to be bored by ongoing media coverage of the problems with carbon emissions, according to the Environmental Transport Association.
