Women drivers 'could cut insurance costs with greener cars' 02 May 08
Female motorists could cut tax and insurance costs by switching to a greener car, experts say.
Representatives of the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) say drivers are looking to reduce bills as the costs of fuel and road continue to rise.
Four-wheel drive vehicles in particular are being shunned as foxy lady drivers opt for the likes of the Toyota Prius to save cash, the association says.
Technical and corporate affairs executive for Biba Graeme Trudgill said: "Tax is priced according to your emissions, so there are benefits to driving greener vehicles, both in tax and insurance."
It is thought around 55,900 green cars like the hybrid Prius will be on the UK's roads by the end of this year, although this is still only a fraction of the country's registered vehicles.
Increases in tax and fuel costs introduced in the last Budget but delayed until October will again push up the price of running the average car.
Biba is the UK's leading general insurance organisation, representing customers, brokers and leading companies.
