Women drivers ripped off by car insurance? 08 April 08
Female drivers could find that they are not getting the best deal on their women's car insurance by not shopping around, with insurers failing to add all costs to the initial premium price.
An investigation by the Mirror has discovered that when it comes round to renewing an insurance policy, many cover providers will offer a quote for the bare essentials, failing to include costs which are then added on at a later date.
For example, the publication suggests that many Britons may be being ripped off when they drive abroad.
Despite motorists having fully comprehensive cover, some insurers will charge extra for overseas driving, with many offering only three days worth of free cover.
Meanwhile, paying for cover in instalments typically adds £36 to a premium, while not adding an excess to a policy can cost as much as £60 extra.
"It always pays to shop around. But don't assume you have the cheapest deal until you've checked that it offers all the cover you need," the publication advises.
Meanwhile, financial website Fool.co.uk suggests that motorists get at least three quotes in writing before making a choice.
