Women drivers 'worse than men at checking tyres'
Women drivers are not as conscientious as men when it comes to checking their car's tyres, according to new research.
A poll undertaken by jamjar cars discovered that 87 per cent of 789 motorists surveyed said they forget to ensure tyres are safe and pressures are correct, publishing group Haynes reports.
Although women drivers are regularly believed to be safer behind the wheel, it was found that they either neglect this maintenance task or get others to do it for them.
Haynes said checking tyres can prevent a range of disastrous consequences, such as a puncture or a flat, which can be dangerous if it occurs while driving.
It is also a legal requirement for tread depth to be at a certain level - 1.6 mm - so if yours look bald, it is advisable to get them inspected and changed if necessary.
Indicator gauges are handy and tyre pressures can be checked at most petrol stations.
