Women motorists may welcome cash for bangers
Women drivers desperate to ditch their old bangers may welcome the introduction of a vehicle scrappage scheme next month.
Under the programme, motorists with cars that are over ten years old will be able to hand them over to be disposed of in return for £2,000 towards a new set of wheels.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) predicted the initiative would encourage drivers back into showrooms up and down the country.
In order to be eligible, participants must have owned the vehicle that is to be scrapped for at least a year.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt commented: "The scheme recognises the economic value of the motor industry and we are determined to make it a success."
He went on to say the group was looking forward to hammering out the final details with government members over the next few days.
Female motorists who save money on a new car in this way may find they can reduce costs even further by securing the best deals on specialist insurance for women drivers.
