Women 'seeking professional help instead of DIY solutions' 22 April 08
A survey has showed almost nine in ten women drivers will now shun DIY work on their motors.
According research by Castrol, 87 per cent of female motorists are going straight to garages or asking a partner for help rather than trying to fix problems themselves.
However, the research also showed men are currently little different with just 14 per cent of male drivers taking on repairs.
Castrol's Rob Stroud said: "While past generations took pride in their cars and spent hours keeping them tip-top, men appear more inclined now to pop to the garage."
The firm's research showed more than 50 per cent of motorists including women drivers are unsure if they are using the right type of oil for their cars.
Mr Stroud said some tasks such as topping up oil could be carried out by motorists including female drivers.
He also advised anyone thinking of taking on any car task to do their homework and ensure they know exactly what they are doing before going down the DIY route.
Last summer, Castrol revealed that only a quarter of Brits heading overseas in their car knew what to check before heading off on a long journey.
