Women to heed police advice on in-car items?
14 April 08

Female motorists in North Yorkshire might want to heed police advice and not leave their vehicles open to thieves.

Officers in the region are hoping to cut car crime by following a new initiative entitled Scream: Sustainable Crime Reduction by Educating At risk Motorists, the Nidderdale Herald reports.

Motorists in the Ripon and Pateley Bridge areas will be targeted under the plans, which involve patrolling officers looking out for vehicles where items have been left on show inside.

Upon spotting these vehicles, police will note down the automobile's details and then send a letter to the owner advising them of the dangers of leaving items on display in their vehicles.

Police are urging the motorists to lock their possessions away in the boot when parking up, but they also suggest that drivers should go one step further and remove the items from their vehicle altogether.
