Women's car-buying 'setting a colour trend' 07 March 08
The rise in the number of women buying used cars can be seen in a change among the most popular car colours, according to the latest research.
British Car Auctions (BCA) has said that when analysing some 125,000 cars from last year, almost half of them were either blue or silver (23.4 per cent and 23.3 per cent respectively).
However, Simon Henstock, UK operations director of BCA, said that an increase in popularity in "softer colours" could be down to increased activity among females in the car-buying market.
"Underlining the growing numbers of women buying used cars, we are also seeing softer colours and finishes such as lilac, mauve and pearlescent becoming more popular," Mr Henstock said.
The operations director also had a warning for anyone tempted to buy what he termed "highly fashionable colours", claiming that such body work can become "deeply undesirable".
Research conducted recently by Fool.co.uk suggests that women are less likely to opt for one of these fashionable colours.
Two in five women drivers (40 per cent) were more likely to choose a car with green credentials rather than one that provokes envious looks.
