Millions of British motorists have been victims of road rage in the past three years, a study has shown.

Research conducted by Zurich Insurance has highlighted that ten million Britons have been on the receiving end of some form of road rage, equating to one in three drivers, the Daily Mail reports.

A seventh of the motoring population said they had been pursued by another motorist, while one in ten had seen another driver pull over to confront or threaten them.

Half of those questioned said that other road users had made obscene gestures at them, while 30 per cent reported having abusive language thrown their way.

Spokesman for the firm Mike Quinton commented that stressed motorists are likely to be dangerous drivers, urging road users to be aware of their emotional state while driving.

Earlier findings by Direct Line, cited by the BBC, have shown that many motorists feel stressed out and unable to cope when confronted with lorries on motorways.
