FOXY Newsdesk Sussex business woman appointed Women's Business Ambassador 06 January 10
Local Sussex businesswoman Steph Savill has been appointed as Women's Enterprise Ambassador by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA), joining a national network of some 1000 women entrepreneurs who have been recruited to act as role models for women and to promote the benefits of being in business.
Steph's business is awardwinning FOXY Lady Drivers Club, a unique life assistance membership association for women drivers. She also runs a marketing business called FOXY Choice which promotes good female friendly garages and car dealerships. She believes that the UK motor industry can be a lot more female friendly and that an increase in the number of female staff and women entrepreneurs will make the garage and car dealership experience a lot more enjoyable for all customers in future.
Steph talking to motorists at the NEC in Birmingham.
Many women drivers tell Steph that they feel intimidated in male-dominated garages and car showrooms even though they are professional shoppers and can be the family decision maker when it comes to buying a new car and choosing where to have the family cars serviced.
"The problem is that 80% of the motor industry workforce is male" Steph explains "so it isn't surprising that many garages and new car dealerships are still seen as intimidating places run by men, mainly for men and where women are often treated as a joke."
Until the industry gets its female friendly service levels right Steph worries that more and more women will opt to shop online at discount car website brokers and via garage agents.
"All well and good..." warns Steph "but when the customer isn't sure who they are really doing business with there can be unforeseen difficulties when things go wrong."
