Congratulations Jamie and Jules and welcome to new baby Buddy Oliver.
Reading what Jamie said about all the oestrogen in his household (and secretly hoping for a son after three beautiful daughters) reminded me of how I felt when landing in the male dominated UK motor industry. Before that I’d been in leisure and tourism industries where women weren’t (or didn’t feel) in the minority.
With 80% of employees male, the way I explain it is to say I felt like the only cat in a dogs home. The dogs don’t really appreciate the cat there – it’s a dogs home, what’s the point!
And the cat feels a bit lonely, and longs for some company like her. When it all changes of course.
And just like a female friendly business with women in customer facing roles, the customer service dynamics change massively when gender is seen as a business rather than just a feminist issue.
