The secret about Ladies Evenings is that the presence of women within the business usually makes a big difference to the turn out on the night.
And when it comes to reviewing tyre safety best practice, you’d expect any business run by FOXY’s Woman Of The Year 2017 Jane Bailey (and her daughters) to be particularly good at this at Morecambe’s Westgate Tyres of course.
So we wanted to know how their last evening went, supported by Micheldever Tyres and GT Radial.
Here’s what daughter Emma told us…
“Once again, our Ladies event was a great success with lots of laughter, learning and of course Ladies!
After converting our garage area into an impromptu classroom, we opened events on the night with a short introductory talk and a couple of road safety videos before we got down to the ‘nitty gritty’ of tyre safety.
We then split into smaller groups so all ladies could move round the different stations to clearly see and hear what was being done and said.
The ladies were then
1) given advice on part worn tyres. This was quite simple – we always say DON’T BUY THEM at any price – you don’t know where they’ve been!
2) told the benefits of wheel alignment and shown how we use our alignment machine and set it up on a vehicle.
3) shown how to carry out under-bonnet (oil, antifreeze/coolant) checks and given advice eg keep a pair of rubber gloves/kitchen roll handy for this purpose.
4) shown (and given advice re) how to change a wheel (where applicable) and given the opportunity to change one. We’d expect most ladies to have and use breakdown cover here but it’s quicker to DIY when you know how safely and in some areas in the Lake District mobile reception can be tricky.
Refreshments were provided by The Cocktail Club (Mocktails only of course) as were cakes from Amy’s Cakes and more, along with goodie bags, Certificates of Attendance and gift memberships of FOXY Lady Drivers Club of course.”
