Top British horsewomen and member of the 2016 Olympic Team GB, Pippa Funnell MBE is a brand ambassador for SsangYong – Korea’s oldest 4×4 and SUV specialist producer – and she represents the company at all the major equestrian events she attends.
SsangYong cars are manufactured in South Korea by SsangYong Motor, which is 75 per cent owned by the Indian engineering conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra and imported into the UK by SsangYong Motor UK. Established in 1954, SsangYong is Korea’s oldest vehicle manufacturer and its only 4×4 and SUV specialist producer.
British Olympic rider Pippa Funnell, who is based near Dorking in Surrey, is a former three-time winner of Badminton and former European Champion. She last competed here in 2018 with Billy Beware with having ridden him in 6th place in 2014.
In 2016 she was a member of the team for the Rio Olympic Games (Billy the Biz) and in 2015 was a member of the British team that won silver at the European Championships and was 8th individually (Sandman 7).
She first competed at Badminton in 1988 and etched her name into the eventing history books when in 2003 she became the first winner of the Rolex Grand Slam (for consecutive wins at Kentucky, Badminton and Burghley). Pippa now also competes in international show jumping.
Eventing, including the title sponsorship of The SsangYong Blenheim Horse Trials and as the Official Vehicle Sponsor of Badminton Horse Trials, has become an integral part of SsangYong’s marketing activities focusing on their 4×4 vehicles and Sports Utility Vehicles. Both major equestrian events present a perfect platform for SsangYong’s 4×4 range, including the awarding winning Musso pick-up truck and its flagship vehicle, Rexton.
Commented Nick Laird, managing director of SsangYong Motor UK, “We are absolutely delighted to have Pippa as one of our brand ambassadors. As a manufacturer of authentic four-wheel drive vehicles noted for their off-road and towing capabilities, the equestrian market is an audience we value enormously and are privileged to be working with a horsewoman of Pippa’s standing.”
Pippa Funnell added: “I am really excited about driving the new SsangYong Rexton. In the equestrian world it is essential to have a reliable 4-wheel drive vehicle that’s capable of towing a large horse or work trailer loaded with heavy jumps around the farm, and to get me to events often in wet, muddy conditions.”
